The First Presbyterian Church of Chicago is committed to supporting the artists of the South Side of Chicago. We believe that access to space where art can be created, viewed, taught, and performed is essential for the cultural resilience of the South Side. Our Artist-in-Residence program is one arm of this mission. Artists are given access to a private studio space, free of charge, which they can access 24/7. They also have access to shared space for rehearsals, performances, and exhibitions.
This residency is for artists and curators who are personally and creatively rooted in the South Side of Chicago. This includes artists who grew up in the South Side, have lived here for a lengthy amount of time, who are deeply engaged and involved in the South Side, and those whose creative practices are rooted in the artistic modalities of the South Side. There is no restriction on media or disciplines. The residency term is one year and may be renewed. Applications are received on a rolling basis.
Currently, there is no stipend or budget provided to artists.
